FEDERAL COURT COST DECISION:

Just to keep everyone up to date I can advise that the Federal Court Judge this morning found that the Your Water Your Say group IS required to pay the Federal & State Governments court cost. We do not at this stage have any idea as to how much this will be but to some extent it is irrelevant given the little money that we have as an organisation.

We will be carefully reviewing the judgement to determine if there are any further legal avenues open to us (at minimal cost of course) and will further update everyone when we have more detail and advise as to how we progress as a group from here.

This action should send a shiver down the spine of every community group who dares to question a Governments decision. This is unprecedented & Premier Brumby is on the radio today saying that we did not have a strong legal case and hence basically, why shouldn’t we pay!

Tell them clearly how outrageous it is that State and Federal Governments believe it is fair and equitable to bankrupt community groups that dare to challenge their decisions. Tell them it is a misuse of their power that they endeavour to shut down debate and silence a community that will not accept having an environmentally destructive project the size of the MCG dumped on them without consultation.

We will not be silenced as the issue is too important and the attempts to ignore and brush off this community will not work.

It will indeed make us stronger and more intent on winning this fight.
